Dear John, I am pleased to tell you that two pieces of your work have been selected for our “Open” exhibition. Your paintings, “Merula Bird” and “Purple Cup”, have been selected. Please can you deliver them to the Gallery on Saturday 11th or Sunday 12th January, between 10:30 am and 6 pm. This year, they are holding their 19th Upfront Artists Open Exhibition. It’s a great place to go to buy art and have lunch.

This self-funded “Open Exhibition” derives its financial backbone from entry fees, enabling us to curate a vibrant and inclusive showcase. These contributions support the staging, advertising, and the much-anticipated preview evening, which offers an exclusive first look at the exhibited works. The funds also facilitate the allocation of generous cash prizes, including the prestigious £1,000 First Prize, awarded to a truly outstanding artist. Additional categories are determined by our discerning judges, tailored to the range and quality of entries received each year.
Visitors can make a day of it by indulging their palate at our inviting coffee shop, serving a delectable vegetarian menu from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Prepared fresh in our gallery kitchen, our chefs craft an ever-changing menu of vibrant salads, sandwiches, paninis, soups, quiches, savoury pancakes, pasta dishes, and comforting classics such as chilli and lasagne.
Save room for dessert, as we proudly serve traditional favourites like fruit crumbles, sticky toffee pudding, and seasonal cakes that pair perfectly with freshly brewed coffee or aromatic tea. Moreover, our menu caters to various dietary needs, including gluten-free options. Whether you choose to dine in our spacious main gallery surrounded by art, the charming conservatory filled with natural light, or the serene outdoor patio, we promise a delightful and relaxing culinary experience.

About the Gallery
The Gallery presents an ever-changing programme of inspiring exhibitions throughout the year. Each collection is thoughtfully selected by the owners to showcase a wide cross-section of artistic styles and talent. Exhibiting artists are local, national, and international, ensuring a rich and varied experience for every visitor. Exhibitions feature painting, sculpture, ceramics, and textiles, celebrating creativity in all its forms. These may be solo exhibitions or collaborative group shows, united by a central theme that sparks imagination and emotion.
In addition, the gallery proudly displays a rotating collection of artwork by artists who have become beloved and popular exhibitors at Upfront. The Gallery features several areas showcasing unusual and unique gifts, alongside a large, ever-changing display of greeting cards. Elegant cases display a mix of jewellery, from finely crafted designer pieces to colourful, playful creations that brighten any collection.
Our on-site puppet theatre has inspired a popular selection of puppets in the shop. This section is a favourite with younger visitors, offering a wide range of charming puppets to suit all budgets. Even our finger puppets are priced perfectly for pocket money, making them a delightful keepsake for children and a fun addition for collectors alike.
