The Wonderful Tony Laverick is a maker of handmade Ceramic Art Pieces. He produces hand-thrown and slabbed porcelain and is a leading UK Artist with over 30 years of experience. I cannot remember when we first saw Tony’s work. It was probably in St Ives, Cornwall. If you visit galleries around the UK, you will probably come across his work.

We have been to many of the galleries listed below and have spotted his work. Tony also does some of the potter’s shows, such as Art in Clay Farnham. We have seen him there several times over the years. We bought this vase on the left about 10 years ago or so. It’s very clever the way he achieves such a thin neck on such a large vase with no cracks to be seen.

About Tony Laverick

Tony Laverick established his own studio in 1988. He had previously studied ceramics before working in the ceramic industry in Stoke-on-Trent. (including as a designer for Coalport China, part of the Wedgwood group). Tony’s background in industry has given me a broad appreciation of ceramics and techniques. He is interested in the art-ware produced by Royal Doulton in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but He is also fascinated by the work of French potters such as Clement Massier. Tony is equally appreciative of the works of Kandinsky, Malevich, Mondrian, Nicholson, Brancusi and Rodchenko. They have all been an influence on Him as have the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Original Vision Tony Laverick

While drawing on these sources and various cultures, Tony also has his own original vision. Tony has developed his own glazes and techniques over many years of experimentation and is still excited by the results of the combination of human judgment and technique. Tony is always willing to take risks with his work to see where it takes him. It is, in his opinion, this quality which distinguishes the artist from the craftsperson.

In 2014, Tony Laverick was made a Fellow Member of the Craft Potter’s Association, and in 2015, Tony was selected to be a member of Contemporary Applied Arts.
