Our admiration for Walter Keeler and his exquisite Salt Glaze Pottery has grown over the years. As we encountered his masterpieces in exhibitions spanning from St Ives to Bath and beyond. Last year, our fondness culminated in the purchase of a stunning piece from the Out of the Blue Gallery in Marazion, Cornwall. A memory we cherish dearly, especially considering the gallery’s recent change in ownership.
Walter Keeler, born in London in 1942, embarked on his artistic journey at the Harrow School of Art. In 1965, he founded his first studio in Bledlow Ridge, Buckinghamshire, before relocating his pottery to Wales in 1976. Throughout his career, he has not only crafted remarkable pieces but also shared his expertise through various teaching roles, captivating audiences with his lectures on ceramics across the globe.
In the 1970s, Walter honed his focus on functional pots, creating intricate designs in reduced stoneware and salt glaze. Recently, he has expanded his repertoire to include a captivating range of earthenware, showcasing his versatility and innovation in the realm of pottery. Through his dedication and passion, Walter Keeler continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of ceramic art.
